Otto Bradfisch
Otto Bradfisch served as head of the Łódź Gestapo office and former commander of Einsatzkommando 8. The profile reconstructs the person’s function in Łódź, the Wartheland and the Chełmno killing centre through documented office, decisions, supervision or operational conduct. It does not assign every crime committed by an institution or region to one individual.

This profile identifies the level at which a regional police headquarters converted a decision to murder into deportation timetables, staffing and field operations. It does not attribute every crime committed by the Łódź office to Bradfisch personally.

Postwar accountability
In 1961 a Munich court sentenced Bradfisch to ten years’ imprisonment for his part in the crimes of Einsatzkommando 8. In 1963 a Hanover court imposed a thirteen-year sentence for complicity in the deportation and murder of Jews from Łódź. The sentences ran concurrently; he was released in 1969.
Limits of the evidence
The Hanover judgment distinguished Bradfisch’s responsibility from that of department head Günter Fuchs. This profile preserves that distinction and does not equate command responsibility with personally carrying out every act.
