Wilhelm Trapp
Wilhelm Trapp served as commander of Reserve Police Battalion 101 during shootings and deportations in the Lublin district. The profile reconstructs the person’s function in the Lublin district of occupied Poland through documented office, decisions, supervision or operational conduct. It does not assign every crime committed by an institution or region to one individual.

- Trapp commanded Reserve Police Battalion 101 when it carried out mass shootings and deportations of Jews in the Lublin district in 1942.
- At Józefów on 13 July 1942 the battalion shot approximately 1,500 Jewish residents after Trapp communicated the order and assignments.
- The battalion subsequently participated in further shootings and deportations to Treblinka.
Place in the chain of responsibility
Trapp's case shows how an Order Police commander translated deportation and killing orders into assignments for ordinary reserve policemen. His command responsibility does not remove the agency of company officers and individual shooters or make every later battalion crime his personal act.

Postwar accountability
Poland tried Trapp before the District Court in Siedlce and sentenced him to death on 6 July 1948. The sentence was carried out in December together with that of another battalion officer.
Limits of the evidence
The often cited overall record of Battalion 101 includes actions carried out with other SS and police formations, including Operation Harvest Festival. It is not a number of people killed personally or solely on Trapp's individual order.
