Christian Wirth
Christian Wirth served as commandant of Bełżec and inspector of the Operation Reinhard killing centres. The profile reconstructs the person’s function in T4 facilities, Bełżec, Sobibór and Treblinka, later the Trieste area through documented office, decisions, supervision or operational conduct. It does not assign every crime committed by an institution or region to one individual.
Confirmed findings
- Wirth worked in the T4 programme, participating in early gassing tests and organising or inspecting killing facilities that used carbon monoxide.
- At Bełżec from late 1941 he established gas-chamber and transport-processing procedures later imposed on Sobibór and Treblinka.
- From 1 August 1942 he inspected all three Operation Reinhard killing centres for Odilo Globocnik and enforced their reorganisation and operation.
Place in the chain of responsibility
Wirth transferred personnel, techniques and routines from T4 into Operation Reinhard and exercised direct operational supervision. The profile does not erase Globocnik's programme command or the agency of individual camp staffs.

Postwar accountability
Wirth never faced a court. Yugoslav partisans shot and killed him near Hrpelje–Kozina, close to Trieste, on 26 May 1944; postwar trials of Bełżec, Sobibór and Treblinka personnel documented his central role.

The profile distinguishes Wirth's T4 and Operation Reinhard posts from later crimes in the Trieste region and from acts of subordinates not shown to have been directed by him.
